19 May 2011

The Recovery and Insolvency Specialists Association (RISA) in the British Virgin Islands today hosted an inaugural one-day seminar in association with INSOL International, at the Treasure Isle Hotel in Tortola, BVI.

The leading insolvency professionals in the region were in attendance joined by professionals from leading US and UK law firms and barristers’ chambers, judges, banks, hedge funds and real estate agents.  The event, the first of its kind in the BVI, was sold-out and widely acclaimed as one of the most successful, engaging and informative INSOL International events to date.

Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited was a gold sponsor of the event and Hadley Chilton, a director of RISA and BVI Licensed Insolvency Practitioner, who heads up the Corporate Recovery & Insolvency practices of Baker Tilly British Virgin Islands and Baker Tilly Cayman chaired a lively session entitled “White elephants of the Caribbean” on the topical subject of how to realise value from distressed tourism property developments.  Hadley is currently liquidator of one of the largest hotel and residential resorts in the BVI and John Greenwood, fellow BVI Insolvency Practitioner with Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited, has also acted as liquidator of two other significant hotel and marina developments in the Territory.
